Today is the day;
The celebration of 50 years of Nigeria as an independent nation.
I keep seeing all the facebook status updates from Nigerians-mostly abroad, and I can’t help but feel sad. “Happy Independence Day-we love you Nigeria!” There is nothing “happy” about this day. Nothing! I do not believe in blind love.
The only thing left for me to say, as I feel I have said quite a bit the last few posts, is that I hope one day soon on October 1st Nigerians everywhere will TRUTHFULLY have something to celebrate.
Arise o compatriots,
Nigeria’s call Obey.
To serve or Fatherland
With Love and Strength and Faith.
The labour of our heroes past-
Shall never be in vain.
To serve with heart and might;
One nation bound in Freedom, Peace and Unity.
O God of creation,
Direct our noble cause
Guide our leaders right
Help our youth the truth to know
In love and Honesty to grow-
And living Just and True.
Great lofty heights attain;
To build a Nation where Peace and Just shall reign.
Nigerian National Pledge
I pledge to Nigeria my country-
To be faithful, loyal and honest,
To serve Nigeria with all my strength,
To defend her unity and uphold her honour and glory;
So help me God.

Denial is not the key, neither is blind supposed love.
Consciousness, Activism and Collective National Focus are what Nigeria needs.
I truly hope with everything that I am that one day both our national anthem and pledge will ring truthfully not just in our ears but comfortably in our minds and deeply in our hearts.
