DOGGIE-DOODLE or KITTIE-CAT ???

July 1st, 2010 by Zara Chiron received No Comments »

Are you a dog person or a cat person? I actually find that question to be so lame…

Really? Dog or Cat? Either one or the other?
Like you can’t appreciate both?
And based on what? Stereotypical and contrived characteristics that we (annoying and arrogant) humans chose to decorate these two (beautiful) species with?

Whatever.

Are there certain genetic commonalities that influence the way all animals that fall under the feline species conduct themselves. Sure. Does this concept also apply to the canine family-yes ok.
But each animal-I don’t care what his/her species is-has its own unique personality.

Yeah-I said it! (You anthropocentric irate)

So this being said….

I am not posing the typical dog/cat-which one do you prefer question.
However, my question is indeed rooted in the (unfair) stereotypes of the two species (sorry lovelies!)
But I just had to point out my beef with these stereotypes anyway. Ok? Ok.
(call me a hypocrite-I don’t care!)

Moving on….

When I say, “Are you a Dog person or a Cat person?”
I mean it in regards to your own personality.

Would you consider yourself
(based on the stereotypes places on these animals)
To be a Dog or a Cat. And why?
I would consider myself neither.
(duh! Often happens when people generalize and trivialize complex beings.)

I would say that I am like a Dog, in the (stereotypical) sense that I am warm, friendly and like people.
But I am also like a Cat because although my warmth and friendliness are sincere, I am not quick to let my (silent but strong) guard down and allow just anyone to get close to or intimate with me.
I am friendly but very selective when it comes to whom I truly consider a friend.

I am capable of being as loyal as a dog but am yet again, very selective of whom I choose to be loyal to.
How I pick and choose is often based on my ability to “smell a rat” like a cat can…and unlike a dog, when I do sniff something that smells funny, I do not overlook it but stay far away from it!

I am allergic to bullshit, people. I detest phoniness with a passion.

And my eyes can pierce through your guard and read your energy like a cat’s eyes can see clearly in the dark.
I always tread cautiously but do so without making you feel uncomfortable because, like I said, I have the warmth of a dog and can make you feel oh so comfortable and relaxed-to the point where you may foolishly assume I am vulnerable, open and an easy target. Pshh! Yeah right…

Lastly, I am like a cat in that I go through life solo. I do not move in a pack. I do not like cliques, circles, crews or any of that stuff. They are often held together by the strings of insecure codependence anyway…
I hustle solo but I know where home is-and never hesitate to go to those I consider “family” when I want down time and just curl up and relax.

I guess perhaps I am more catlike…
But don’t get on my bad side though
Because I can easily turn into what some might consider to be a straight bitch! ;)
